Show-and-Tell Day!

The little girl in the blue is our 4yr daughter Emily. That's her dad (Frank) holding Norm.

Lots of little happy hands.

Norman was show-and-tell in my 4yr old Emily's class on Friday. He also went to older Sister Sarah's 1st grade class for a few minutes. He is super with kids and allowed many hands to pet him at one time. I guess I should get used to getting the query "what kind of dog is that, anyway???"

  1. Welcome to our wonderful Cardi blogger family. Lots of great photos and good information in these blogs, we laugh together, cheer for one another, and, sometimes, cry together. Enjoy your boy -- there is no dog to compare with our Cardigans.

  7. Norman looks like a future reading dog to me! After he's a year old, you might consider getting him certified as a therapy dog. My Spencer loves to go to schools and libraries for reading time.

  9. I would love for him to be a therapy dog....I am clueless. Where would I start?

  10. Start now by giving him lots of opportunities for new, positive experiences. Take him along when you go places that allow dogs. The more exposure he has to things outside your house and yard will develop his confidence. This includes meeting lots of people and other dogs - therapy dogs often work in teams, so he needs to be comfortable around other friendly dogs. Start basic obedience training. Look at the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate program on AKC's website. The CGC is a minimum requirement for most therapy dog programs. After he is a year old, you can test with him for therapy dog certification. There are several organizations who do this - google therapy dogs for more info.

  11. If being a reading dog interests you, you already have two great trainers living with you! Encourage your kids to read to him. I know - it sounds crazy to adults - but kids get it!
